AN INSIGHT INTO BHAKTI YOGA

There are various paths through which a person can realise God. Our Vedas and Scriptures have shown innumerable ways to offer services to the Almighty. The paths are namely Hath yoga, Karma Yog, Naad Yog, Bhakti Yog and the other is to give charity in the name of Lord. People have different notions to follow their respective paths. The question arises which path paves the way to attain the Supreme Power of the Universe.
In the Bhagwaad Geeta in Chapter 6 The yoga of self- control, the path of Bhakti( worship) has been called the supreme and quintessential to realise the Supreme power i.e. the Almighty. Some people argue on this notion as they believe no matter whatever path you follow one is sure to reach the final destination. It is true but partially because the journey begins from their selected path but ends up in Bhakti Yoga as it purifies the disciple internally which is an integral part of spiritual development.
A person who does Karma yoga, no doubt he is carrying out his duties sincerely but without taking the name of Lord is of no meaning. Whereas a person who is donating his money in the service of Lord, without remembering his name, without being in the consciousness of Braham is also in vain. He may be able to acquire the Sadkarmas but he will not be able to enjoy the spiritual bliss required to realise the presence of God pervading in the entire Universe.
The disciple in the above mentioned Yogas will be able to generate material comforts for himself due to his Sadkarmas but would find no place in the abode of God. A person who follows the path of Bhakti will automatically generate all the goods for him in both the worlds. Therefore Bhakti Yoga should not be belittled as a person who travels through various other Yogas come ultimately to the Bhakti Yoga, the ultimate refuge for overcoming the miseries of the world and in the realisation of God.

THE UPAVAAS OR FAST

Fasting in Sanskrit is called उपवास. उप in Sanskrit means ‘near’ and वास means ‘to say’. The literal meaning of the word is to stay near. Upvaas therefore means staying near the deity, meaning the attainment of mental proximity with the Lord.
It is mentioned in the following verse as,
उपावृत्तस्य पापेभ्यो यस्तु वासो गुणैः सह ।
उपवासः सविज्ञेयः सर्वभोगविवर्जितः ॥
Upavruttasya papebhyo yastu vaso gunaih saha
upavasah savidyeyah sarvabhogavivarjitah
Fast is observed by a virtuous person who is free from sin. In that state one should abandon all bhogas (luxuries) including eating.
Importance of fast
Fasting is done for many reasons- to please the Lord, to discipline oneself and even to protect, to cleanse the body once every week etc. It saves various types of energies, time and also effort related to food taking. But generally it is considered as a measure for removing sin in Gautama Dharmasutra.
In Brihadaranyaka Upanishada it is mentioned as the way to god.
तमेतं वेदानुवचनेन ब्राह्मणाविविदिषन्ति ।
यज्ञेन दानेन तपसाऽनाशकेन

Tametam vedanuvachanena brahmanavividishanti
Yadyena danena tapasa nashakena
Believing Vedic sacrifices, donation, penance and fast are the ways which lead us to god.
In Mahabharata it is included in the types of penance. It is foremost and important among these types. In Gruhya sutra it is said that, fast is the food cooked of the grains which are useful to sacrifice.

NATH SAMPRADAYA ( SAINT DNYANESHWAR )

Gorakshanatha is considered to have bestowed knowledge on Trimbakpant who was the great grandfather of Dnyaneshwar. Dnyaneshwar was a Marathi saint of the Nath tradition. He entered during a period of spiritual degeneration, superstitions, animal sacrifices and worship of many deities. He began writing the Bhagavad Geetha in #Marathi called Dnyaneshwari and completed it at the young age of 15 such was his spiritual knowledge. This brought the Geetha to the common man who did not know the Sanskrit language but only the local language Marathi. He took #samadhi at the tender age of 21.
He laid the foundation of the Bhakti movement and propagated the #Varkari tradition where thousands went on foot in pilgrimage singing devotional songs and dancing to Pandharpur where the famous shrine of Lord #Vithoba was installed. He advocated devotion guided by knowledge.

DHAYAN AND SAMADHI IN NATH YOGA

Gorakhnath, great yogi, had  view about absolute reality and attaches almost equal value to the transcendent experience of Samddhi and the enlightened phenomenal experience of the normal waking state. AS we know  nāths’ reinvention of #Haṭha Yoga was  a continuation of the process begun in the Matsyendrasaṃhitā. It involved a reformation of tantric ritual, relocating it to the body of the individual yogīs and doing away with Tantra’s complex rituals They were recognized as great adepts in Yoga and credited with the development of those so- called occult powers which the constant practice of Yoga unfolds.
There are two main achievements  of #sadhka are #Dhyana and Samddhi. #Dhyana means a continuous stream of calm and peaceful consciousness and Samdahi means absolute unity of consciousness, in which the container and the content, the subject and the  object, are completely identified in zero. This can be achieved by constact practice and the path shown by guru
Moreover Success in Yoga and yogic powers  demands an unblemished character, continence and denial of all pleasures of flesh, withdrawal from the distractions of the world, and no one can deny that the fathers of the Nath school practiced these virtues to an extraordinary degree. We should not bother much about philosophical theories and engage discussion about subjects which really transcend reason, need to pay attention to spiritual discipline, the practice of Yoga.
