I am sure these both the fields have the origin in mathematics, simply we can say the root is same now technically we do make difference between Astrology and Astronomy like Astronomers examine the positions, motions, and properties of celestial objects. Astrology attempts to study how those positions, motions, and properties affect people and events on Earth. For several millennia, the desire to improve astrological predictions was one of the main motivations for astronomical observations and theories.
The Indian sages for example Arabhatta, Vahrmir, Valmiki, Parashar, Parshuram, shukra dev, and even Ravan were well versed with the mathematical calculations which involved the speed of planets, their rotation, eclipse and other planetary happenings, and their impact on the human as well as life of other organisms. They dis research on the vibrational, rays and radiations by the celestial bodies. The astrology came into the play when the knowledge of these scientific facts were linked with the dharma to respect the mother natue and her creations, and in later part so called the DARAMA GURUS, PUROHITS , PANDITS made dharma a tool to fool and frighten the common man by projecting the planets as the devils and misrepresenting the knowledge to illiterate and ignorant mass, I feel the pundits played very dubious role in killing the scientific knowledge and posing great harm to SANATAN PADHATI, still present days they charge thousands of rupees to do havan or yagana to change planetary alignments, I DON’T KNOW WETHER IT WORKS OR NOT, THE MANTRA CAN MANEUOVER THE MARS OR ANY OTHER PLANET, like SATURN ?????
The concept “aham brahmasmi” will be working on this logic I think. The mantra gives the suitable internal energy to counter the negative or unsuitable energies thus making the individual more courageous, energetic or may be pampered to do the work. Many psychological aspects can be given consideration.
As on prediction part of Astrology I may agree on some extent as I have seen accuracy upto 50-70% sometimes more ... astrology has continued to be part of mainstream life overtaking science IT’S A HUGE MARKET, NOT A TAXABLE PROFESSION IN INDIA, the pandits are enjoying this reservation for many thousand years. Even in the west people are earning a lot from ASTROLOGY, VEDIC ASTROLOGY, BHRIGU ASTROLOGY etc.
PRESENTLY ASTRONOMY HAS EVOLVED INTO A COMPLETELY SEPARATE FIELD, WHERE PREDICTIONS ABOUT CELESTIAL PHENOMENA ARE MADE AND TESTED USING THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD. ASTROLOGY IS NOW REGARDED AS A PSEUDOSCIENCE.... I THINK MUCH RESEARCH IS NEEDED ON THIS..
